At EKC Civil Engineering Training Centre, our team works together to equip students with practical skills and hands-on experience.
Each team member brings unique expertise and a shared commitment to supporting learners on their career paths.
We caught up with them to find out more:
Will Simpson | Head of Centre and Bricklaying Lecturer

Will’s background includes a first-class degree in Theology of Pastoral Care, which he earned later in life at the age of 38, and a plethora of knowledge from working and teaching within the Construction industry. This experience helps him connect with students, many of whom need encouragement and direction to achieve their potential. Will likes to use success stories of past learners to motivate students, showing them that hard work and determination can lead to success.
Under Will’s leadership, the Centre has helped 65% of its learners move into employment after completing their courses. He sees each student as an individual with unique strengths and believes in building a supportive environment where they can thrive.
Will says: “I see our students as monuments, they all stand alone and grow on their individual journey, but when put together they are astonishing. That’s what we are doing here – creating long lasting skills for our students.”
Tim Rynehart | Plastering Lecturer

Tim started his career in an office before deciding to retrain as a Plasterer. After running a small Plastering and Building firm for over 20 years, he joined the centre five months ago. His hands-on experience makes him a valuable resource for students, and he enjoys teaching practical skills in a supportive, approachable way.
Tim appreciates the close-knit team at the Centre and the relationships they build with students. He is especially passionate about helping learners who have had negative experiences with Education in the past and works hard to help provide a fresh start.
Tim says: “It is a really rewarding job and I feel we are making a big difference to the lives of our learners.”
Rob Fischer | Bricklaying Skills Practitioner

Rob is a real success story, having begun his journey as a Bricklaying student at the Centre, where his dedication and work ethic soon stood out. After completing his Level 2 Bricklaying qualification, he was offered a role as a Skills Practitioner.
But Rob hasn’t stopped there—he’s now studying for his Level 2 Plastering qualification alongside his paid role and is looking ahead to becoming an Assessor in the future.
In addition to his role at the Centre, Rob has started taking on landscaping projects and is planning to grow his own business. His new pickup truck is already proving useful, allowing him to take on more work for friends and family.
Rob says: “I have never had a job before (other than working with my family), so this has been a great opportunity for me. I’m really grateful to Will for giving me a chance, I’m excited to see what the future holds.”
