Course overview

This Level 3 Diploma in Plumbing (Foundation) is a technical qualification designed to develop the knowledge and skills required to work confidently within the Building Services Engineering (BSE) industry. The course focuses on the installation, commissioning, servicing and maintenance of domestic plumbing and heating systems, preparing you for employment as a plumber or plumbing and heating engineer.

You will complete six mandatory units, all of which are assessed through a combination of practical work and knowledge-based assessments. This ensures you can both understand industry requirements and apply your skills in real working environments.

Throughout the course, you will develop skills and understanding in the following areas:

  • Organising resources within Building Services Engineering
    Learn how to plan work effectively, manage materials, tools and equipment, and work efficiently on site.

  • Domestic cold water systems
    Understand how cold water systems are installed, commissioned, serviced and maintained in domestic properties.

  • Domestic hot water systems
    Learn how to install, commission, service and maintain hot water systems safely and effectively.

  • Domestic central heating systems
    Develop knowledge of heating system installation, commissioning, servicing and maintenance, including system components and controls.

  • Electrical work within plumbing and heating systems
    Gain understanding of electrical components and safe electrical work related to domestic plumbing and heating systems.

  • Domestic sanitation systems
    Learn how sanitation systems are installed, commissioned, serviced and maintained in line with industry standards.
