Fabrication is a vital role in the engineering sector. The broad purpose of the occupation is to carry out metal fabrication work using materials such as rolled steel joists, columns, channels. As a Level 3 Welding Fabricator apprentice, you will be learning how to plan, produce and assemble complex structures using your fabrication knowledge.
During your qualification, you will spend a majority of your time in your workplace learning on the job, and you will have dedicated time at College to consolidate your learning and ensure you are developing the required skills.
Throughout your training, you will develop on a wide range of fabrication techniques and processes. Each method requires a different level of skill, knowledge, and control to ensure welds meet the required standards and avoid defects.
Fabrication and welding play a crucial role across almost every sector of industry, meaning there is strong demand for skilled professionals. Opportunities can be found in industries such as automotive, marine, transport, and construction. Fabricators use a large range of metals including steel, aluminium and titanium at a range of thicknesses from 0.5mm up to over 20mm.
As a safety-critical role, fabricating requires a high level of responsibility. You will be expected to produce work that meets strict quality standards, ensuring that finished products are safe, reliable, and fit for purpose.
