You may have heard about an outbreak of Meningitis in the county, and we can understand that you may be worried about this. In response to this, we want to ensure that you are aware of what symptoms to look out for and understand what you need to do if you develop symptoms.
At EKC Training, we offer ‘Get Into’ courses. These short courses give learners the opportunity to gain the skills they need to secure a job in a new sector.
Being able to give adult learners, who may have been out of work for a while, the space to grow and learn is essential in helping them to re-enter the workplace.
Our learners gain more than valuable practical skills, they develop their confidence, feeling ready to take on new challenges.
We recently meet two of our ‘Get Into Business Administration’ learners at the end of their course at EKC Training Swale Centre. Each had their own reasons for joining, and both now have inspiring aspirations for the future.
Alison’s story
Alison is a highly motivated individual who has worked hard throughout her life. After being made redundant from her role within healthcare, she experienced a significant knock to her confidence. However, she was determined not to simply stay at home; she wanted to explore new opportunities. While at the Job Centre, she noticed a flyer for the ‘Get Into Business Administration’ course, thought it sounded interesting, and immediately signed up.
Since being on the course, Alison has flourished, she has refreshed her knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, as well as expanded her understanding of laws and policies such as GDPR. Alongside these practical skills, Alison has also grown in self-belief and developed crucial teamwork skills.
“Being made redundant was devastating, and my confidence took a real knock. But these four weeks have helped me get myself back together. Being around other adults, learning together, supporting each other – it’s made a massive difference.”
Returning to education as an adult was an easy transition for Alison. Conscious to continue to develop her skills and keep her brain active, she regularly completed online courses. The welcoming environment, encouraging lecturer and friendly peers certainly helped too.
Alison remarked that the course has been the ‘best thing’ she has ever done. She now hopes to start a new job as a Teaching Assistant at a primary school. Putting her years of experience caring for patients, and raising her own children and grandchildren, to good use.
Dema’s Story
Devoted mother, Dema, has spent the last decade caring for her children while also working in hospitality. When she decided it was time to pursue a new career path, she discovered the ‘Get Into Business Administration’ course.
During her time on the course, Dema has learnt how to use Microsoft Word more efficiently and has strengthened her general computer skills. The course has helped her realise there are various jobs roles she could explore. She now feels more confident expressing her ideas and is determined to continue developing her skills through further qualifications once she finishes this course.
“I have three kids, and most of my time has always been focused on them, being in class helped me reconnect with myself. These four weeks actually helped me create long-term plans for my future, and I’m slowly working through each step to reach them.”
When asked if the course prepares learners for the workplace, Dema replied without hesitation: “Absolutely!” She explained that they complete both individual and group projects, develop presentation skills, and learn how to work with people from a variety of backgrounds.
Now that her children are older and more independent, Dema is excited to build a long-term career. She credits the ‘Get Into Business Administration’ course for reminding her that she is capable of learning new skills, and for giving her the space to grow in a supportive, welcoming environment.
