Richard Hoshea is one of our Lecturers at EKC Training, who helps adult learners gain the skills they need for flourishing careers, further study, and for everyday life.
Richard’s passion lies in helping students overcome challenges and achieve their personal and professional goals.
We caught up with Richard at the EKC Training Swale Centre to learn more about his journey, his background, and what he loves most about teaching.

What led you to your current role in EKC Training?
“So, my background is actually in logistics and I worked in logistics for almost 10 years. Afterwards, I was helping learners get on board with apprenticeship programmes, and then I made the move to East Kent Colleges Group.
“I started as a Jobs Broker, which meant I’d work in partnership with the Job Centre Plus and external agencies to help get people into employment.
“I’ve been working with the group now for over seven years and this role as a Lecturer is one that I’m really enjoying.”
What is your favourite thing about teaching here at the centre?
“I think the thing I most enjoy thing about teaching is obviously helping all students. It’s great to help them overcome what they thought their barriers were, and to help them achieve their goals.
“In regards to the Training Centre themselves, I like how we have enough resources across East Kent for our students to develop in whatever they want to do. Helping them locally especially with things like application forms helps them build their confidence significantly.”

What’s a key benefit of studying at an EKC Training Centre?
“We actually work with a really good network of employers who support us and the learners throughout their courses. A big benefit is how we can help learners in regards to finding work as well, which is something that we’re quite proud of.
“The team has many recruitment officers here who work with these external partners, so we’re always trying to get the best for our learners to progress really far in their life.”
What advice would you give to someone looking to apply for a course?
“It is really important to develop your skills and learning. I feel no matter what age you are, you can always develop your learning each day and reach your potential in life.
“You shouldn’t be afraid to take new challenges. I hope that our help means we can encourage our learners to do that.”
Can you sum up the experience at EKC Training?
“The mean the organisation itself of EKC Training is very positive. We always try and encourage people to make a difference in their lives and I think that’s something we’re really proud of. Our success stories with learners have been really great.
“Every learner who attends our courses is always looking to bring about a positive outcome for themselves. Completing a course means they can achieve something significant and look towards the future.”
