There are many reasons adults choose to study at our EKC Plumbing and Electrical Training Centre. Michelle joined us in January to develop her plumbing skills so she can maintain her holiday homes herself.
Michelle, who is new to plumbing, started her professional career as a veterinarian until she married a farmer and joined him in working on the farm.
“I’m a very practical person and have completed my own renovations in the past. I am doing this course to ensure I can use these skills when we build our holiday homes. I am going to look into completing the Electrical course too,” said Michelle.
Being a female in a male-dominated subject has not held her back, as she’s enjoyed getting to know her course colleagues.
“I felt nervous when I started as I am the only woman on my course. I did not need to be as everyone is on the same page and we get on well with each other,” she noted.
Adult students are able to apply for courses at EKC Plumbing and Electrical Training Centre in Ashford with little to no experience. All that is needed is a dedication to learn.
“The tutors have been friendly and helpful. It’s really not daunting at all being a female or being older. There is a range of people on the course all from different backgrounds and with different reasons for being here. Whatever your reason is, you’ll fit in!”
