The six-week fast-track Rail Engineering programs are designed to give you everything you need to kickstart your career. Here's what's included.

Studying a course at the EKC Rail Engineering Training Centre, located in Shepherdswell, will set you up for success in the industry.

The six-week fast-track programs are designed to give you everything you need to kickstart your career. Here’s some of the exciting things that are included in the courses:

A Fast-track into the industry:

These six-week courses are a fast-track to getting a career in rail engineering.

As you study, you’ll combine real practical work with key theory knowledge, so that you are able to take on any situation and adapt when it comes to your future career.

You’ll gain a solid knowledge of railway systems and infrastructure, plus the know-how for track maintenance and repair techniques.

You’ll learn how to operate and maintain specialised railway equipment, develop strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, and pay attention to detail while sticking to safety protocols.

Effective communication and teamwork will be key, along with staying physically fit to work outdoors. You’ll also pick up time management and organisational skills, adapt to changing work conditions, and understand railway regulations and procedures.

During the course, you will have the opportunity to achieve a Level 2 in Track Maintenance, and other essential qualifications such as manual handling, safety awareness and emergency first aid.

Essential Equipment provided on-site:

All PPE for the course is provided, including your safety boots, high-visibility jacket and essential equipment that you’ll need to start work on rail maintenance.

This means that you don’t have to worry about additional costs, resourcing equipment and bringing it with you to the centre.

Financial Support:

If you’re thinking about extra costs that may come with the course, there is no need.

Our team will support you with this and will work out what assistance you are entitled to.

One option for support is that we can help cover your travel expenses to and from the training centre, located in Shepherdswell near Dover.

Assistance is also available for those who need childcare arrangements during the course, so you can fit being a parent around your studies.

Easy Progression Opportunities:

Upon completion of our course, you’ll be entered into a PTS Track Induction course for FREE, which is an essential qualification if you want to work on any railway.

There’s no need to worry about funding or finding sponsorships to get your career started, as we’ve got all this covered.

You’ll then get your Sentinal Card (PTS Card) and be accredited to work on the railway, with salaries for maintenance workers currently up to £43k.

Support with your next steps:

If you need further guidance on entering the industry, we’ll help you understand how to use your new qualifications in the job market.

For those looking to advance their skills even further, we can provide information on further training opportunities. We’ll work with you to see how a course at any of the Training Centres in East Kent can improve your potential.
