What is AM2?

AM2 stands for Achievement Measurement 2 and is a practical performance skill assessment.

It is the final unit that every Level 3 Electrical NVQ learner must complete to gain their electrical technical qualification. You will need this to apply for your JIB ECS Gold Card.

The AM2 assessment is a standardised benchmark for qualified electricians. This standard ensures that you possess the essential skills necessary to carry out safe and competent electrical work.

The assessments content, structure and marking are created to demonstrate that you have acquired the necessary safety skills throughout your training.

Any EWA applicants registered from 04 September 2023 will be on V2 of the assessment to align with the revised apprenticeship standard.

AM2E

This assessment is for professionals undertaking the Experience Work Assessment (EWA) who have enrolled after 1 November 2021. The AM2E is a crucial milestone in your journey.

Before booking the AM2E assessment, you must provide evidence of holding the Experienced Worker Qualification.

Assessment Variations based on Previous AM2 Certification:

  • Already Hold AM2 Certificate: If you already have an AM2 certificate, your assessment may involve a supplementary unit based on the date of your original AM2 certification:
    • Before April 2010: Complete the Testing and Safe Isolation supplementary unit.
    • After April 2010: Undertake the Containment and Safe Isolation supplementary unit.
  • No AM2 Certificate: Candidates without an AM2 certificate are required to take the full AM2E assessment.

AM2

The AM2 should be taken by electrotechnical apprentices who are training against the Apprenticeship Framework, those undertaking the JIB Mature Candidate Assessment and those following the Level 3 NVQ who are not apprentices.

Apprentices who are enrolled onto the Apprenticeship Standard should undertake the AM2S assessment.
