What is it really like to study at EKC Construction Training Centre? Hear from our learners as they share their experiences, progression and the support they’ve received along the way.

What is it really like to study at EKC Construction Training Centre?

From building practical skills to gaining confidence and finding a supportive learning environment, our learners have plenty of positive things to say about their experiences at the centre.

We spoke to learners across our construction courses to find out what they enjoy most about studying with us and how their time at the centre is helping them prepare for their futures.

Cody Harman, Level 2 Plastering

Cody has particularly valued the support and guidance he receives from his lecturers. He expected to be given the practical work and left to get on with it but found that his lecturers took the time to work with learners individually and help them improve their techniques.

“I was expecting to just throw some stuff on the wall and be left alone, but the lecturers have really taken time out of their day to help one-on-one for a lot of the Plastering students,” he said.

“They were very present all the time, really making sure to pick out the issues that we were making in our plastering and making sure to teach us the way to avoid it happening in the first place.”

For Cody, this support has helped him develop his skills and feel more confident about taking the next step into the workplace.

“I’m very much enjoying it so far. There’s no room for error which I appreciate, and it’s set me up with more confidence for me to go out from here into a work environment.”

Returning to education can feel like a big step, particularly if you’ve had difficult experiences with learning in the past. For Michael, the supportive environment at EKC Construction Training Centre has helped make that transition much easier.

He said: “Will, my tutor, is the best thing about the course. I was anxious about coming back into education due to previous experience, but Will has a laid-back attitude and if you are stuck, he finds another way to help you understand.

“There is a very supportive environment here and it has been much better than I expected.”

Michael’s experience highlights how the right support can help learners feel comfortable, build their confidence and get the most from their time at EKC Training.

Che Rahmaninof, Level 2 Bricklaying

For Che, studying at the centre has helped him realise that he is capable of achieving more than he previously thought.

Having found classroom learning difficult in the past, Che has been surprised by how well he has taken to learning at the centre. His experience has helped him build confidence in his own abilities.

“It’s made me feel quite good inside and made me realise that okay, I can actually do certain things if I put my mind to it and put the effort in. So that’s what I’m just trying to do now, build myself up,” he said.

Che has also enjoyed the supportive environment and the encouragement he receives from his lecturers when he needs a little extra help.

“The lecturers make everything really easy for you, if you’re ever struggling, they’ll pull you to a side, have a little chat with you, give you a bit of a boost and give you that encouragement that you sometimes need.”

Jonathan Agrippa – Level 2 Bricklaying graduate, now studying Level 2 Plastering

Jonathan has already completed his Level 2 Bricklaying course and is now continuing his journey by studying Level 2 Plastering at Hersden.

For him, being able to see his own progression has been one of the highlights of his time at the centre.

He said: “I would recommend this course to anyone; I have really enjoyed my time at the centre. It has been great to see my progression, and the centre cares about sustainability.”

Jonathan’s journey shows how learners can continue developing their skills and explore different areas of construction as they work towards their future careers.

Every learner comes to EKC Construction Training Centre with their own goals and experiences. Whether you’re starting out, returning to education or looking to develop new skills, the right support and learning environment can make a real difference.

As our learners’ experiences show, your time at the centre can be about more than gaining a qualification. It’s about learning new skills, building confidence, overcoming challenges and seeing what you’re capable of.
